PIERRE – Gov. Kristi Noem announced 12 students (K-12) who are being recognized for their artistic talents through the new Governor's Student Art Competition. An exhibition of the artwork will be displayed in the South Dakota Capitol Building beginning January 12. "We launched this student art competition with the intention of honoring and encouraging the work of outstanding young artists in South Dakota," said Gov. Noem. "Arts education is an important part of a well-rounded school curriculum, and we have hundreds of talented young artists in our midst. We received more than 200 submissions in the first year of this program, and we're thrilled to open the exhibition on the first day of the Legislative Session." A panel of 10 professional artists served as judges for the competition. The exhibition will comprise the top three ranked pieces in each age division.

This exciting new program for student artists is a collaboration between Gov. Noem and the South Dakota Arts Council, a state agency organized under the South Dakota Department of Tourism.
