BankWest

Saving money doesn’t have to be confusing, and BankWest employees Courtney Friend and Autumn Vetter are proving just that. The dynamic duo presented their information in Mrs. Goehring’s 3rd-grade classroom. Their aim is to help kids understand the basics of budgeting, saving, and setting financial goals.

Courtney and Autumn even included the all-important lesson of knowing the difference between needs and wants and encouraged the students to share their personal opinions of needs and wants.

They also introduced the idea of setting short-term and long-term savings goals—a concept that is new to these 3rd graders.

To make the lesson fun and relatable, they used visuals, including jars labeled “Save,” “Spend,” and “Give,” and encouraged the children to set up similar systems at home.

Each student was given a piggy bank and a $10 coupon to be used when they open a bank account at Bank West.

April 24th is “Teach Children to Save Day,” and BankWest is empowering young people to take control of their financial futures.

This presentation, along with a social studies lesson on personal finances that was taught by Mrs. Goehring, will hopefully teach the children the importance of making good money decisions, even at a young age.
