The 30th Annual North Area Honor Band was held on December 3-4th at Northern State’s campus at the Johnson Fine Arts Center. Two of our very own Selby Area Students, Sophia Von Wald & Ava Schanzenbach were selected, based on previous auditions, to participate in the honor band. Over 100 students from 20 schools around the area participated in the band.
VonWald and Schanzenbach also auditioned for South Dakota State University’s Honor Band Festival held in February. They have both been accepted into the Festival. Sophia will play clarinet in the Honor Wind Ensemble, and Ava will play flute in the Festival Band. This Honor Band festival is one of the most prestigious in the state of South Dakota, with over 45 schools participating, including schools from North Dakota, Iowa, and Minnesota. Both bands have an all-day rehearsal on Friday, a morning rehearsal on Saturday, and a concert Saturday afternoon.
