The 31st annual North Area Honor Band was held on December 2nd-3rd at the Johnson Fine Arts Center on Northern State University's campus. Ava Schanzenbach, a senior flute player at Selby Area was selected based on previous auditions to participate in the ensemble. Over 100 students from 20 schools around the area participated in the band.
Schanzenbach also auditioned for South Dakota State University's Honor Band Festival in February. She was accepted to play flute in the Festival Band conducted by Dr. Cale Self from the University of West Georgia. This Festival is one of the most prestigious in the state of South Dakota with over 50 schools participating, including some from Nebraska, Iowa, and Minnesota.
