Congratulations to the September Students of the Month, Wyatt McNamara and Evan Olson! Students of the month are nominated by teachers based on effort, attitude, and character. These students have been exemplary in each of those categories. Keep up the great work!
On Tuesday afternoon, Selby Area School hosted an assembly called the Humanities Launch. The speakers who came talked to the students about topics such as antibullying, vulnerability, and much more. They scattered the students around and put us into random groups. Once the students were grouped, they would do group activities. This gave students the opportunity to talk to new people they had never met before, and practice vulnerability. Another activity we did at the assembly was dancing. All of the students and even some staff members learned a dance, and we did it together as a whole group. 9th grade student Clara Huffman had a good a time at the assembly. She stated,” I was able to learn a lot about antibullying and the goodness of vulnerability.” At the end of the assembly, the speakers encouraged us to take what we learned and apply it to the outside world- talk to new people, listen to them, and be kind to others. I think that everyone seemed to enjoy the program, and was able to learn a lot of nice things from it.

Wolverine fans- The cross country meet in Gettysburg on Saturday September 20th has been cancelled due to the weather.
To conclude the Homecoming games, the seniors played against each other. The objective of the game was to use pool noodles to knock other students’ cups to the ground. It was an intense game that ended with a competition between Brooklyn Helm and Easton Schwartz. The winner of this game was… Easton Schwartz! Also, congratulations to the Sophomore class, who were the overall winners of the Homecoming games.

Selby Area School is celebrating its homecoming week, and a lot of fun events are happening. There are dress-up days, game days, football games, and so much more. We started Monday with Pajama Day and played a game in the gym. This game involved two hula hoops on a table, and one hula hoop had 10 ping pong balls in it. The other hoop is empty. The students had to put one hand behind their back, balance a yard stick on the table, and switch the ping pong balls from one hoop to the other. The sophomore class won this game.

Thursday's theme: Soccer Moms & BBQ Dads
Wolverine fans- Homecoming parade will start at 1:00 pm on Friday September 19th in Selby. Floats can start lining up at 12:45 pm near the bus shed north of the Selby Area School building. Come support our school, students, and communities during this parade.
Selby Area's personal finance class had Roger Hoffmann from Kohlman, Bierschbach, and Anderson talk to the class about taxes. Students enjoyed learning important lifelong skills in class!
Today, the first-year students of Selby Area School and the last-year students of Selby Area School got to meet up and go out for recess together. This is always a fun event for the seniors, as they get to relive their younger school days. For the younger kids, it is an exciting opportunity to meet the older kids.
The event started off in the kindergarten classroom, where the seniors introduced themselves and shared their plans for next year. Once outside, some kids played soccer, some played kickball, and some played on the playground. After recess, all of the students enjoyed some popcorn and visited with each other.
This event has become a sort of tradition that started 2 years ago, and it’s proving to be a favorite for both the seniors and the kindergarteners. It was a perfect way to kick off the seniors’ final homecoming week!

The Selby-Herreid Wolverines had their first cross country meet of the year. This meet was at Redfield and there was a total of 34 teams. For the girls’ varsity race (which is a 5k run), there were 59 runners. Jentry Hubner (11th grade) got 16th place with a time of 21:01, breaking her old personal best time. Right behind her, Evelyn Shearer (11th grade) got 17th place with a time of 21:03. Brynnly Huber (9th grade) got 35th with a time of 23:03, and Anniah Russell (8th grade) got 48th with a time of 24:20.
For the boys’ varsity run, there were a total of 83 runners who participated. Gavin Hirsch (12th grade) got 2nd with a time of 16:30, breaking the Wolverines’ record by almost 30 seconds - only a few seconds away from the old Selby Lions record set back in 1974. Sam Ernst (9th grade) finished in 52nd place with a great time of 19:50, and Will Stiegelmeier (10th grade) finished in 82nd with a time of 24:01.

The senior class will have a meeting on Monday August 18th at 6:00 pm in Mr. Fergen's classroom during open house. Parent(s)/Guardian(s) and students need to be at the meeting to discuss upcoming events for the senior class this school year.
Due to a family medical issue, there will be NO boys bball academy on Monday in Selby. Since this is the last scheduled session, that means it will be over for the summer. Due to the cancelation, Coach Hettick will hold a free basketball camp during the fall before basketball starts
The boys skills academy scheduled for Monday July 14th will be held in Selby (North Gym) instead of Herreid.
The HS commons and the east-west hallway going to elem and gym are closed until Friday
