Photography Students Capture Life on the Bohle Farm
Selby Area School’s photography class took its annual trip to Brandice and Al Bohle’s farm, where students completed an assignment focused on photographing animals in their natural surroundings. The visit gave students a chance to get closer to the animals, explore new subjects, and practice using light, composition, and different camera angles outside the classroom.
The Bohles’ farm is home to a variety of animals, including Thoroughbreds ranging from retired racehorses to current racers and young racing prospects, Quarter and Paint horse mares with foals, and Percheron draft horses. Their cattle include Longhorns, Brahman and Brahman crosses, Watusi, and Black and Red Angus. Among the farm’s memorable residents is Poncho, a Watusi–Longhorn cross known for his parade appearances. Guinea fowl, cats, and their dog, Faize, add even more opportunities for students to capture farm life.
Another special resident is Jazzy Jasper, a colt named in honor of the late Jasper Iron Cloud. His mother, Mindy, previously belonged to Jasper, giving the colt’s name a meaningful connection to the family’s history.
Photographing live animals encourages students to be patient, observant, and ready to capture a moment as it unfolds. This assignment offers another avenue for creative expression while helping students build their photography skills through hands-on experience.

Senior Parents,
There will be a FAFSA informational meeting at 2 PM on October 16th, at the start of Parent-Teacher Conf., in Mr. Begeman's room. This meeting covers the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
Music Boosters will meet in the Band Room on Thursday, September 24th .2026 at 7 pm.
The Junior High football game with South Border will still by played in Ashley starting at 5:00pm.
For three of our seniors, the experience was especially meaningful because they attended kindergarten in that very same classroom. Being back in the room brought back memories and gave them a chance to talk about how much has changed since they were kindergarteners themselves.
It was a fun day for both classes and a great chance for the seniors to make new memories while revisiting some of their own.
Please be aware that buses taking students home today may be running later than their normal scheduled times. This is due to bus drivers and students returning from the parade in Herreid later than expected.

Thanks to a Rural EMS Grant, these students are able to take the course completely free of charge. This is a great opportunity for them to gain valuable skills and serve their communities through their local ambulance services.
We are so proud of these students, and we can’t wait to see where this opportunity takes them!
