Library Reading Challenge
Middle School and Elementary School students at Selby Area School competed in the Library Reading Challenge throughout the school year.
Middle School Students completed the challenge of reading One Million Words in 5 months- that’s a big accomplishment! Congratulations to these middle school students: 8th grade: Tony Cadotte, Evelyn Shearer (not pictured), 7th grade: Darlene Cadotte (not pictured), 6th grade: Samuel Ernst, Brynnly Huber, Ella Perman, and Isaac Perman
The Elementary students were challenged to read a library book from a chosen genre each month from September through March. Students holding a certificate completed the challenge for all 7 months, and those without the certificate completed 6 months. FFA/FCCLA Reminder: FFA/FCCLA potluck awards is tonight, Friday May 19th @ 6:30 PM in the lunchroom. Bring a dish to pass. Awards will be given out and new officers will be installed.


Play Day Update
The track has improved at a faster pace than expected. The City of Selby will be bringing some gravel to help speed up the process. If the gravel repair is successful and the track is ready to go by this evening, Field Day WILL be in Selby on Wednesday. An official announcement will be made this evening.
Thank you to Casey Eisemann and the City of Selby for your help! Greatly appreciated!


Field Day moved to Mobridge - Wednesday, May 17, 2023 - 1:00 PM
Due to the conditions of the Selby Track (Mud / Ruts), Field Day has been moved to Mobridge. The ball throw will take place in Selby on Wednesday morning. All remaining events (50M, 100M, 200M and LJ) will take place at Mobridge.
A special thank you to the Mobridge-Pollock School District for allowing the move to Mobridge.


Due to a scheduling conflict, the MS/HS Awards Program will be moved to 1:00 on Wednesday, May 10, 2023. The program will be held in the HS Gym.

Calligraphy
Middle-school art students explored Gothic and Modern calligraphy.
Students made hallway posters using their favorite calligraphy technique.


Eva Hannan was honored at the 2023 Academic Excellence Recognition in Pierre, SD. Thanks, Eva for all your hard work and leadership of our school!



Congratulations to Izabella Cagnones and Jesse Aden!!! They were the students of the month in March for CITIZENSHIP. Thanks for helping make our school a great place to be!

Date: The concert will be held on Tuesday April 25th, 2023, at 7:00 P.M in the Main
Gym at Selby Area School.
Time: All students must be seated in their designated section in the bleachers with
their classroom teacher by 6:45 pm for roll call. The doors for spectators will open at
6:45 pm. The concert will begin promptly at 7:00 pm. Please arrive on time to ensure
you are there in time for roll call. Students are expected to remain with their
teachers for the entire performance.
Admission: There is not a cost to attend this concert.
Clothing: Dress in your “Sunday Best”. Dresses and skirts for the girls are okay.
Please no sweatpants or sweatshirts. I would prefer no jeans, however, if that is your
best option, no holes. *** A special note for this concert is that it is animal themed.
If your student has any animal print clothing or clothing with animals, they are
encouraged to wear it, but it is not mandatory. ***

2023 Dakota Student Art Exhibition
Six of our top artists this year competed against students from North and South Dakota at the Dakota Student Art Exhibition in Aberdeen.

They exhibited their artwork, learned new art techniques, and spent time with art professionals.
This event provided constructive and supportive feedback while also letting them experience art workshops with professional artists. Over 150 students from nearly 20 schools participate each year.
One student’s art piece was awarded “Best in Show” this year. Noelle Rau received🏆 this award along with $300.
Noelle also received the “Student Choice Award”🏅
Judge’s choice awards were given in six different media categories. Eva Hannan received 2nd 🥈 in photography.
Each year, the Lora Schaunaman “Rising Star” award is given to a student who exhibits budding potential to be a great artist in the future. This award went to Eva Hannan.


Shout out to Keaton Fiedler for High Honors (3.30 and up) as well!
